So for the
first couple of days we were shacked up in a (very nice) hotel.
We checked in on our new office, checked out our new surroundings, sampled the local cusine, went shopping and saw an amazing festival!

One thing I have come to absolutely love about living here is that
there is always something going on! I mean, on our second night there was a huge lantern festival, right outside our hotel! Despite having been to Japan 13 (!) times, this was the first festival I had ever seen, so it was pretty special. HUMUNGOUS lanterns were paraded along the main street, with groups of people carrying them. There were dancers and food stalls and performances. It was just a fantastic welcome into my new hometown!

It's normal to have a view of horses on show outside you hotel window, right?

Buzzing with anticipation with Samurai Kyle and my adopted brother Mark

Looking menancing with Kyle's genuine Daiso sword.
